We rely on electric and gas utilities to keep homes comfortable, factories running, and cities illuminated. Delivering this energy entails enormous responsibilities to customers, shareholders, employees, the government, and the environment. The transforming power of an enterprise geographic information system (GIS) helps utilities save money by maximizing safety and efficiency. Empowering Electric and Gas Utilities with GIS details the dramatic difference an enterprise GIS can make to an energy provider of any size with technology that goes far beyond mapmaking. The book is an easy-to-read narrative about the trials and tribulations of a fictitious utility, AnyTown Energy, that ultimately is empowered by GIS. Case studies folded into the narrative illustrate how utilities using GIS in the real world have improved operations, customer service, and business practices. Empowering Electric and Gas Utilities with GIS is for utility executives, operations and technology managers, and financial officers. It's also for GIS professionals who may want to explore careers in the electric and gas business.
